Things to keep in mind when visiting the mountains
Kinmel and Rhodes!
* Fuel!
Visitors are advised to fill up your tank before taking on the dirt road to Rhodes. Petrol can be unobtainable in Rhodes.
* Money!
There are NO ATM's in Rhodes or close nearby.
* Food!
There are no Supermarkets in Rhodes. A small farm-shop is available for necessities, but expect to pay a high price.
* Take Aways!
Rhodes does NOT have a Kentucky, Wimpy or Steers. Two restaurants are available with select menus and home-made pizzas.
* Warm clothes!
Bring windbreaker jackets and lots of warm clothing (also in summer). Weather on the mountains can change in an instant - and can reach freezing temperatures of up to minus 18 degrees Celsius.
* Conditions of Dirt Roads!
Before embarking on a trip using any of the dirt roads in the area, especially when traveling form KZN, we advise to phone Willem @ 082 789 5519 and double check road conditions. Conditions can change on a day to day basis, especially during snow season.
* GPS!
Take note that most GPS's do not take into account the amount of time it takes to travel some of the various dirt roads in the area. Most journeys in the mountains take longer than estimated. Please also double check roads and road conditions - do not simply trust the choice given by your GPS.
